Longitudinal Joint Seal

The Illinois Department of Transportation will be conducting an experimental feature with a longitudinal joint seal (LJS). The LJS is a polymer modified PG asphalt with mineral filler added. When applied at the specified thickness, this product should significantly improve the longitudinal joint. In addition, the use of this product eliminates the unconfined edge density testing required with PFP, QCP, and QC/QA. The goal is for this product to be used on at least two projects per District for 2016. The contract specific special provision that will be used may be downloaded using the following link.
